Welcome to The Business Beat.

Whelans Floor Covering renovated

Congratulations to Mark Whelan and everyone at Whelans Floor Covering. They've recently completed a major renovation of their building, which is located at 2512 Chemong Road, just south of Bridgenorth. The building started out as a fruit market thirty years ago. Mark added a second floor, a new cottage country look to the front façade, skylights, energy efficient lighting, new heating and air conditioning, and I hear they got a good deal on the new flooring as well. Mark also used all local trades for the work, and wants to remind people that their sister company Peterborough Carpetland remains open for business at 933 Weber Avenue. For more information call (705) 292-9565.

Beads and Stuff opens

Let's go on a little Eastern Road trip. Cristina Ito and Herb Tyler recently opened Beads and Stuff at 4 Front Street in Hastings. They carry an assortment of beads, rocks, minerals and fashion jewellery, as well as works from local artisans. They have classes, birthday party packages, and jewellery parties. Beads and Stuff is open daily, call (705) 696-2184 for more information.

The Water Lily

The former Darolex General Store in Hastings has been reinvented as The Water Lily. New owner Sue Hay will continue to offer retro/vintage furniture, antiques, jewellery, fresh coffee, pastries and snacks, and if yu need a place to stay, there's a complete 4 person suite upstairs available for rent. And out in Campbellford, paintball fans have a new place to play. Foxhole Paintball recently opened at 233 5th Line, just outside Campbellford. For more information call owner Ben Lowndes at (705) 868-8134.

The Goochie Poochie Pet Spa

And a sure-fire winner of the name of the year contest has to go to The Goochie Poochie Pet Spa at 93 Hunter Street in Downtown East City. Owner Holly Steenburgh offers grooming for dogs and cats.
