Thanks to the Lindsay Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA), the “Classics on Kent” car show is going ahead this year after all on July 12th.

Earlier in May, the Lindsay and District Chamber of Commerce announced it would no longer be hosting the event in 2015 so it could focus on other initiatives of benefit to its membership. At the same time, the Chamber announced it would not be sponsoring the 2015 Santa Claus parade.

Since Classics on Kent is one of the area’s largest events and attractions, drawing thousands of people to downtown Lindsay, the Lindsay Downtown BIA decided to pick up the reins.

“This event is too important to Lindsay and to our residents, visitors and downtown merchants,” explains Lindsay BIA President Charlie McDonald. “After discussions with a lot of people, we felt we needed to step forward and continue the event.”

According to City of Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham, it’s appropriate that the Lindsay Downtown BIA take over the organization of the event.

“It was time for the Lindsay Chamber to focus on other areas and the BIA is a natural fit for taking over this event,” Mayor Letham says. “Classics on Kent brings tens of thousands of people to our community and is one of the largest classic car shows in the province.”

Mayor Letham also says that the City will be assisting Lindsay Downtown BIA with the 2015 event.

“We want to ensure Classics on Kent is as big a success as it can be and we are happy to provide support in this as a transition year,” Mayor Letham explains.

Classics on Kent is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 12th. Details of the event are still to be announced.
