Chris Nickle, president and partner of Forty4 North Group, recently purchased The Whiskey Club located at 172 Simcoe Street in downtown Peterborough. Nickle will rename the establishment The Oxford Parlour & Patio and plans to make some other changes.
“I’m excited to move forward with my plans for the space,” Nickle says. “We’ll continue to focus heavily on whiskey with our new drink menu, but we’ll have a strengthened focus on craft beer and we have plans to install a kitchen in the near future. The location has one of the deepest histories in downtown Peterborough and I am really looking forward to touching on that history while bringing it back to its roots.”
The venue was previously owned and operated by the Kawartha Entertainment Group Inc. (KEGI), which also owns The Venue and Dolce Vita.
“I strongly believe that a different type of gathering place is needed in Peterborough,” says Catia Skinner, CEO of KEGI. “I believe Peterborough has a large following of whiskey lovers and that Chris Nickle and his team will be able to ensure that the space, and his plans for it, fulfills its purpose.”
Nickle will also be implementing changes to music and arts formatting at The Oxford.
“We’ve already lined up some world class musical talent to stop at The Oxford,” he says. “With a transformation of the stage and sound, and my company Forty4 North as the in-house bookers, we expect to provide a very unique live music experience at The Oxford.”
The Oxford is currently closed for renovations, with plans to re-open to the public within the first week of September. A grand re-opening will be announced soon.
