Proceed from the fourth annual golf tournament will help with programming, equipment needs, and special events at the recreation centre for people 50 and older.

The tournament features a grand prize of a trip for two to West Palm Beach, courtesy of Merit Travel, if a golfer hits a hole in one.

There’ll also be prizes for the longest drive by men and women and for the ball hit closest to the pin, as well as a 50/50 draw and prizes for every player.

Teresa Kaszuba from CHEX Daily will be participating in the tournament as Activity Haven’s celebrity golfer.

The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 12 p.m. at Heron Landing Golf Club (2361 Lansdowne St. W., Peterborough).

The cost to enter the tournament is $360 per foursome or $90 for singles, which includes green fees, snacks before tee-off, a golf cart, a goodie bag and an after-tournament dinner.

To register for the tournament, please call Activity Haven at 705-876-1670.

All proceeds will help support Activity Haven, and many local businesses are supporting the fundraiser.

Along with hole-in-one sponsor Merit Travel, other sponsors are Pro-Tect Lock & Safe, Barry Electrical Contractors, Flat Tops, Rubidge Retirement Residence, The Wine Shoppe on Park, Shaw Computer Systems, Finley & Sons Plumbing, Delta Bingo, McWilliams Moving & Storage, Chartwell Retirement Residences, Best of Hearing Centre, Kawartha Glass, FreshCo, Highland Park Funeral Centre, Sullivan’s IDA Pharmacy, Don Dorsett Refrigeration, and Needleworks.

Activity Haven Seniors Centre was funded in 1975 by 60 retirees and has since grown to around 1,300 members.

Located at Queen Alexander Community Centre (180 Barnardo Ave., Peterborough), Activity Haven’s goal is to fulfill the recreational needs of seniors in the Peterborough community by offering a wide variety of programs, including games, fitness classes, social groups, and workshops in art, music, and crafts.

In addition to an annual membership fee of $20, members pay a $2 user fee for each program they attend — with all fees supporting the organization.

While Activity Haven receives funding from the City of Peterborough and Ontario’s Senior Secretariat for its Elderly Person Centre, the organization depends on the efforts of 200 volunteers and additional funds raised through events like the annual golf classic.
