Call for Submissions: City of Kawartha Lakes presents Summer Company Applications in City of Kawartha Lakes. The deadline for applications for the Summer Company program has been extended to June 3 and the number of spaces available in Kawartha Lakes has also icreased. The Summer Company program is open to all Ontario students between 15 and 29, who are returning to school in the fall. The program is 8 - 12 weeks long and allows students to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams with the financial assistance of the Ontario government. Students can receive up to $1,500 at the start and up to $1,500 on the successful completion of the program. The Summer Company program provides practical hands-on training, mentoring and the essential skills to learn to run their business. The Summer Company program is funded by the Ontario government and in City of Kawartha Lakes, the Kawartha Lakes Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre (KLSBEC) manages this program. Workshop: United Way, Haliburton/Kawartha Lakes Community Planning Table and the Kawartha Lakes - Haliburton Poverty Reduction Steering Committee present "Bridges Out of Poverty" from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Dunsford Community Centre (26 Community Centre Road, Dunsford, K0M 1L0). Bridges out of Poverty is a two-day workshop geared towards Social Service professionals within the City of Kawartha Lakes and County of Haliburton. Presented by Jodi Pfarr of Minneapolis MN, the two-day workshop series, based in part on Dr. Ruby Payne's "A Framework for Understanding Poverty", hopes to bring “an insightful and yet practical look into the world of poverty”. Pfarr holds a Master of Divinity degree and comes with a background of work with Catholic Charities, supervising low-income housing units for people with mental illness, chronic inebriation and/or low incomes. She has also served as supervisor to the Special Needs Shelter for the Salvation Army and as a certified critical debriefer with the St. Paul Police Department. Jodi is currently a trainer and consultant with aha! Process Inc. and brings her knowledge and skills from direct experience working in the non-profit world.
