Exhibition: Gallery in the Attic presents May Exhibitions: Rebecca Padgett's "End of Daze" and Dale Brownson's fantastical cityscapes at Gallery in the Attic (140-1/2 Hunter St. W., Peterborough, K9H 2K8). Exhibition: Art Gallery of Peterborough presents "Nature in Culture", Melissa Doherty and Sarah Maloney at Art Gallery of Peterborough (250 Crescent St., Peterborough, K9H 3M6). Kitchener-based Melissa Doherty and Halifax-based Sarah Maloney are mid-career artists who both take up the fine craft of making exquisite objects from imagery found in nature to explore the construction of gender, power and desire. Working in sculpture, textiles and painting, these artists use both image and material as metaphors for reflection, isolation, comfort and posing reconsideration of our cultural context. Benefit Concert: Academy Theatre presents Chantal Kreviazuk beginning at 8 p.m. at Academy Theatre (2 Lindsay St. S., Lindsay, K9V 2L6). Two-time Juno Award winner and one of Canada's premiere musical talents, Chantal Kreviazuk has written or co-written hits for such stars as Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, Pink and Kelly Clarkson. Her popular songs, Time, This Year and a cover of Leaving on a Jet Plane have appeared in the films Serendipity, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and the blockbuster Armageddon. In 1997, Kreviazuk's debut record release, Under These Rocks and Stones, went double-platinum in sales. This was followed by Colour Moving and Still, What If It All Means Something, Ghost Stories and most recently the live recording In This Life accompanied by the Niagara Symphony. A celebrated songwriter and classically trained musician, Chantal Kreviazuk splits her time between homes in Toronto and Los Angeles. This is a fundraiser for Women's Resources, which provides shelter, support and referral for abused women and their children in the City of Kawartha Lakes and surrounding area. Cost: $75. Workshop: Art School of Peterborough and Community Living Peterborough present "Youth Portrait Workshop" from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Art School of Peterborough (178A Charlotte St., Peterborough, K9J 2T7).
