12th Annual "In from the Cold" Christmas Concert

The Heart of a Peterborough Christmas

"In From the Cold", Peterborough's coolest Christmas concert, is back for its 12th year on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10, at 8 p.m. each night at the Market Hall.

Carried Away's performance 2009
Carried Away performs at "In From the Cold" in December 2009

"In From The Cold" was launched in 2000 by a group Peterborough musicians who came together to establish an annual Christmas concert that would be unlike any other. In a few short years, "In From the Cold" became the hot ticket of the Peterborough Christmas season, selling out the Market Hall for two nights every year.

This year's concert features:

  • Carried Away, a renowned Peterborough folk/vocal group
  • Enriqué "Roy" Claveer (a.k.a. Curtis Driedger)
  • Convivio Chorus, an innovative choir directed by Susan Newman
  • Michael Ketemer, a fingerstyle guitar virtuoso
  • Tanah Haney, Celtic harpist
  • The Mandolin Society of Peterborough.

Collectively, these acts present an enchanting mix of music and performance that you won't find at any other Christmas concert, including:

  • Celtic and traditional Christmas carols and winter songs accompanied by guitar, fiddle, Celtic harp, concertina, tin whistle, bouzouki and hammered dulcimer
  • Original, innovative choral arrangements of Susan Newman and John Hoffman
  • New this year! Carols from Greece and Scotland and the return of In From the Cold classics "Christmas in the Trenches" and "River"
  • Seasonal delights from Enriqué "Roy" Claveer (a.k.a. Curtis Driedger) and SNUSH, his intrepid band of local youngsters
  • Michael Ketemer's dazzling fingerstyle arrangement of "The Huron Carol"
  • Some great tunes that are seldom heard, but are actually more beautiful than the Christmas songs we hear over and over again each year
  • Central Ontario's leading mandolin orchestra.

Comments about past "In From the Cold" concerts:

"The Yuletide cheer was enhanced by a cadre of talented Peterborough musicians presenting a charming and laudable program for the capacity house... A great cause, a great crowd and another outstanding night for Peteborough, the Youth Emergency Shelter and our plentiful local talent."

- Jonothan Fiddler, The Peterborough Examiner

"In From the Cold is the start of the real Christmas season."
