Festival: Bethany Ontario Park presents Victoria Day Weekend at Bethany Community Park (1 Wilson St., Bethany, L0A 1A0). Events on Friday include InnerCity Amusements midway, a family BBQ from 5 - 9 p.m. a beer garden from 5 p.m. - 1 a.m., and fireworks at dusk followed by an adult DJ dance. Events on Saturday include InnerCity Amusements midway, a slo pitch tournament from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., a family BBQ from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., a beer garden from 11 a.m. - 1 a.m., and all-ages dance from 5 - 8 p.m., and an adult DJ dance from 8 p.m. - 1 a.m. Events on Sunday include InnerCity Amusements midway, the 23rd Annual Show & Shine from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., a pancake breakfast from 8:30 - 11a.m., a family BBQ and beer garden from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., a Sunday service and animal blessing at 11 a.m., and a pet show and contest at 12 p.m. Events on Monday include InnerCity Amusements midway, a family BBQ and beer garden from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., a parade at 11 a.m. featuring the Port Hope Pipe Band, and the 27th Annual Pie and Baking Contest at 1 p.m. Cost: Fireworks: $5 adults, $2 children under 12, $20 for car load. Show & Shine: $3 for spectors, $5 for vehicle entry. Accepting food bank donations all weekend..
Fundraiser: Lions Club presents Fireworks Fundraiser Sale in Peterborough. Visit our large sales trailer located at Pinto's Corner (5-mile turn) on the Ultramar Gas Bar parking lot (Lansdowne St. W at Hwy 7). Look for our big signs promoting Fireworks sales. Large selection of some of the latest and greatest fireworks including larger "big disply" type firework "cakes". Environmental: Haliburton Forest presents "Birdathon" at Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve (1095 Redkenn Road, Haliburton, K0M 1S0). The Birdathon has become a tradition amongst our campers at Haliburton Forest. One day a year during the spring migration we ask all professional and amateur birders alike to scour the forest in search of their 2 legged, feather friends. Some participants have figured that it is just as much fun to sit back and let the birds come to them. Either way the information collected is equally as important in assisting Haliburton Forest in its long-term monitoring of bird populations. Cost: Regular admission fees to the Forest apply.. Walk: Peterborough Field Naturalists presents "Wildlife Walk" beginning at 8 a.m. at Riverview Park and Zoo (1230 Water St., Peterborough, K9H 7G4). Join PFN President Martin Parker for an outing exploring local habitats and spotting bird life. Join Martin at the Peterborough Zoo parking lot on Water Street. The outing will last around 3 hours and we will carpool to local sites. Please bring binoculars if possible and a small contribution to gas costs. Newcomers and novices welcome. Volunteer: Ontario Volunteer Centre Network presents "Change the World - Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge" in Peterborough. Ontario is challenging young people to volunteer for at least three hours over four weeks to "change the world" in their communities. The sixth annual ChangeTheWorld - Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge kicks off April 21 and runs until May 20, coinciding with National Volunteer Week (April 21 to 27). Delivered in partnership with the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network, this year's campaign's goal is to get 30,000 students between the ages of 14 to 18 volunteering. This challenge encourages young people to get involved in their communities and helps them to develop important skills, such as teamwork and leadership.
